MANAMA: A Bahraini human rights activist joined international groups in a protest against the Iranian regime and its constant meddling in the affairs of Bahrain, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) secretary-general Faisal Fulad protested with activists outside the United Nations Human Rights Council, in Geneva.
Referring to an Amnesty International report, Mr Fulad said: “Iran’s regime has carried out more than 120,000 executions, systematic torture and savage punishments and has been the most serious abuser of human rights over the past 30 years.”
The Bahraini activist said political opponents, intellectuals, youths, women, and religious and ethnic minorities have been under the “most violent suppression”.
“Iran’s rulers have been the main source of instability and insecurity in the region and the world through their active complicity in the killing of the Syrian people and their extensive interventions in Iraq, Lebanon and the entire Middle East,” he said.
Mr Fulad and others carried yellow banners with the message “Viva Ashraf”, referring to Iranian refugees at Camp Ashraf in Iraq.
He further condemned violations of the rights of Iranian dissidents in Ashraf and urged the United Nations and the US to act immediately to recognise Camp Liberty in Baghdad as a refugee camp under international protection.
Mr Fulad was in Geneva for scheduled review of Bahrain’s human rights record by the UN’s Human Rights Council.
