Iran-Iraq: Norwegian MP calls for measures to save lives of PMOI abducted members

Iran-Iraq: Norwegian MP calls for measures to save lives of PMOI abducted membersNCRI, August 20 – Politicians, human rights activists and jurists in Norway raised their concerns over the abduction of two PMOI members in Iraq with competent bodies and authorities over the past two weeks. The following is an excerpt of the letter by Christopher Stensaker, member of the Norwegian Parliament, addressed to the Iraqi Prime Minister on August 9. A copy of the letter was also sent to the Iraqi and the British Foreign Ministers:

“I am writing to bring to your attention a very serious matter. Two members of the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI), Messrs. Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi were abducted by Iraq’s Interior Ministry Special Forces on August 4, 2005, in Baghdad.
“I have been informed by the Iranian Resistance, that based on specific information, the kidnappers were members of the 9th Badr Brigade which is affiliated with the Iraqi Interior Ministry’s Special Forces.
“Based on information I have now received, the 9th Badr forces have transferred the two men to the Iraqi city of Al-Amara and are planning to take them to Iran through a secure crossing.
“The abducted individuals are "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention. It goes without saying that if handed over to Tehran, the two will face torture and execution.
“I hereby would like to ask you as Iraq’s Prime Minister to take every appropriate measure today to prevent this criminal and illegal action taking place.”
