As the hunger strike by Camp Ashraf residents and their family members in Washington, Ottawa, London, Berlin, Stockholm and The Hague approaches its 40th day, World Alliance of Iranian Communities for Ashraf (WAICA) calls for a week of solidarity with hunger strikers  (5-11 September) and support for their demands. WAICA calls on all Iranians to do their utmost during this week to make the hunger strikers’ voices heard across the world.

The hunger strikers demand not to allow killings, suppression and systematic violations of the basic rights of Camp Ashraf residents by Iraqi forces to continue and an end to the Camp’s siege. These are in fact the demands of all Iranians regardless of their political, religious and social affiliations. These are logical, legitimate and just demands, as all the motivations and circumstances surrounding the July 28-29 attacks which left 11 members of the people’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) killed, 500 others wounded and 36 taken hostage, still remain intact.

The criminal forces are still present inside and outside Ashraf and the mullahs’ regime with all its power is pressing the Iraqi government to destroy Ashraf while, regrettably, the International community, particularly the U.S. Government, the United Nations and the European Union have not taken any effective measures in the direction of preventing further atrocities.
The health conditions of many hunger strikers have raised much concern among Iranians in Iran and abroad. Many of them are in critical condition.  According to doctors who have visited them, if the current situation continues many of them will reach the point of no return.

We call on all parties involved to fulfill the following demands:

1- Immediate and unconditional release of the 36 PMOI members who have been taken hostage and are in dangerous state of health;

2- Implement the April 24 resolution of the European Parliament and secure protection of Ashraf residents under the Forth Geneva Convention, including prevention of their expulsion and displacement;

3- Guarantee prevention of recurrence of attacks against Ashraf and establishment of an international team to investigate the crimes committed during July 28 and 29 attacks;

4- Stationing of an international monitoring team in Ashraf under the U.N. supervision.
