Int’l Union for Muslim scholars: Protection of Liberty residents is an ‘Islamic and humanitarian’ duty

NCRI – Iraq must carry out its ‘Islamic and humanitarian responsibility’ to Camp Liberty residents who are ‘guests’ in their country, the International Union for Muslim Scholars has demanded.

The Iraqi government had carried out ‘suppressive measures and an insulting attack’ on the Iranian dissidents and must now provide them with security the Union said in a statement.

They added: “The International Union for Muslim Scholars is paying attention to the Iranians whom have been faced with injustice and massacre and evicted from their previous home camp (Ashraf) and transferred with degradation to Camp Liberty, and also have been faced with attacks by the Iraqi government or others while they have been refugee in Iraq.

The Union said such repressive measures were forbidden, not only against the oppressed and refugees but against anyone.

And they insisted it was Iraq’s duty to provide them with a ‘dignified life based on religion and law’.

The statement continued: “It is the responsibility of the government of Iraq to provide all the means for their protection and care until with full freedom of choice they either return to their own country or go to the country of their choice.
“Based on reliable information from international organizations and eyewitnesses, not only has the Iraqi Government failed to carry out its duties towards these people, but some of its institutions have also carried out suppressive measures and insulting attack attacks against them.

The International Union for Muslim Scholars asks the GoI to do its Islamic and humanitarian responsibility toward the all particularly the refugees that live on its land and protect them against injustice and oppression and return them to Camp Ashraf, or any other suitable place and provide them with all the protection needed and realize their security and well-being.”
