Geneva: Iranian exile sit-in protest to protect rights of Camp Ashraf enters its 123rd day

NCRI –  On Tuesday August 23rd, despite the grueling heat of Geneva, the Iranian exiles continued their 123rd day of demonstration and sit-in protest, in front of United Nations headquarter, in defence of Ashraf residents’ rights.

Todays demonstration drew attention of many pedestrians and UN officials. The UN staff and pedestrians praised the protestors for their uninterrupted demonstrations which has continued for more than four months.

 

Alongside the demonstration, a photograph exhibition of Camp Ashraf April 8th martyrs was held. In this exhibition, the crimes of Nouri Maliki and Khamenei against Ashraf residents were displayed. Many people visited the exhibition and condemned these crime by signing a statement.

Camp Ashraf , located in northern Iraq, is the residence place of members of People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) for more than 20 years. They are protected persons under Fourth Geneva Convention, but Iraqi forces under command of Maliki , Iraqi prime minster, have attacked and murdered the camp residents several times.

The last attack by Maliki-led forces on camp Ashraf on April 8th 2001, has left 36 civilian death and several hundred wounded.

This massacre raised a wave of international condemnation, including condemnation by Ms. Navi Pilay, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights.

Since January 2009, Maliki’s forces have enforced medical blockade and siege of camp Ashraf which so far has resulted in several death.
