Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI)- Camp Ashraf- Responsibility of UN

20 April 2011
Reiterating the European Parliament’s resolution of April 24, 2009 and the adopted statement of November 25, 2010, as well as the statement of April 18, 2011 regarding the criminal attack on April 8th that resulted in 34 dead and 350 wounded which was signed by 70 members of the parliament including six vice presidents and the chairman of the foreign affairs committee, the European Parliament’s Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI) intergroup supports ,the call on the UN Security Council by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi –the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance– to designate a representative in order to investigate this crime, and considers this action a necessary step for fact finding and preventing similar attacks and atrocities in future .

FOFI asks the European Parliament, the High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission, Baroness Ashton, the European Union’s member states, and especially members of the Security Council, (France, Britain, Germany and Portugal), to coalesce their efforts and designate this special representative as soon as possible.

We also call on the UN to take urgent steps and take on the responsibility for protecting Camp Ashraf residents and stationing permanent observers in Ashraf; we ask the European Union and the U.S. to apply their best efforts at the UN in support of this mission.
