French mayor lauds Iranian resistance and Camp Ashraf

NCRI – Mayors and elected representatives from 24 cities from the French region of Île-de-France and Val D’Oise province met on Saturday with the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, at her residence in the Paris suburb of Auvers-sur-Oise.

The mayor of Auvers-sur-Oise, , spoke at the event, saying that owing to their long stay in the town of Auvers, Iranian resistance supporters and activists have now become part of the fabric of the Paris suburb. “The relationships that have been established have been formed on the basis of trust and friendship. You are applauded for your struggle against the religious tyranny in Iran.”

“What is happening in your country is of concern for every democratic minded person in the world regardless of their political ideology. The way the regime is treating Iranian men and women, the brutality and cruelty that it exhibits, the reports about stoning and what we know about hangings, arrests and tortures have made the regime into one of the worst and most ruthless regimes in the world.”

Mr. Bequet also made reference to the 3,400 members of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, and said, “They are now prone to face more danger after the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. This is something that the world public and all freedom-loving people in the world must campaign to prevent.”

Mr. Bequet told Iranian resistance activists and supporters, “You want to create a democratic government that respects human rights and the separation of church and state. These are values that we cherish very much and that is why we stand with you.”

“Here in Val D’Oise province, you are very well known. Many residents here know about your efforts. They respect your cause and even support it,” the French mayor added.

“Tonight, mayors from all political tendencies are present here. I want to thank you for your invitation and say that I care about your situation very much and will naturally be on your side in difficult times.”
