French MEP hails EU condemnation of Ashraf massacre

NCRI – French activist and Member of the European Parliament Jose Bove has hailed a European Parliament resolution condemning the massacre of 52 Camp Ashraf refugees and the capture of seven hostages now being held by the government of Iraq.

And he called on the EU to impose sanctions on Iraq if the seven captives – six women and one man – are not released from their prison near Baghdad airport.

MEPs sitting in Strasbourg adopted a resolution on October 10 on ‘recent violence in Iraq’ which strongly condemned the September 1 attack on Ashraf and demanded the unconditional release of the seven.

Mr Bove – a union leader – said in a video message: “Today the European Parliament passed an important resolution. The Parliament said in a very clear manner today that it condemns the massacre in Camp Ashraf on September 1.

“Also the parliament in a very clear manner condemned the taking hostage of seven Camp Ashraf residents that include 6 women and a man.

“Today the parliament called for the immediate and unconditional release of these seven people and the Government of Iraq must heed to this demand by the European Parliament.

“It is very clear for us that if the Government of Iraq does not respond to the demand by Europe which is within the context of international law, sanctions must be imposed on that government.”

Mr Bove added: “It is important that we condemn the violence that has occurred in Iraq, and it is becoming increasingly clear that this is a result of the Iranian regime’s meddling.

“Therefore, I am happy that the European Parliament adopted the resolution which is an important document and a chance to recognize the rights of all the people that fight against military or religious dictators.”
