Former French FM accuses Iraq’s al-Maliki of Ashraf massacre

Former French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner has accused the Iraqi prime minister of being behind the massacre of 52 residents of Camp Ashraf on September 1, reported Tribune de Geneve from a symposium held in UN Headquarter in Geneva on September 19.

Mr Kouchner said Nouri al-Maliki conspired with the Iranian regime to commit the ‘barbaric’ attack on defenseless Iranian dissidents.

Speaking at symposium in Geneva held by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, he also blamed the United States and the United Nations for failing to protect the camp’s residents, who have all been designated as refugees and protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Tribune de Geneve referred to NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi who also spoke at the gathering, calling for a full independent investigation into bloodbath and demanding the immediate release of seven hostages taken captive by the gunmen.

She said: “The US government, the European Union, and the United Nations must make it clear to the government of Iraq that suppression of the Iranian dissidents in Iraq and holding the hostages will have a profound impact on economic and political relations with Iraq.”
