Euro MP raises concern over abductions of Iranian dissidents in Iraq

Paulo Casaca MEPIn a letter to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Ibrahim Jaafari, President of the European Parliament Delegation to NATO, Paulo Casaca, expressed his deep concern over the abduction of two members of the Iranian Mojahedin. Text of is letter in part is as follows:

We have learnt that two members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), Messrs. Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi, were abducted by Iraq’s Interior Ministry Special Forces at 12:30 pm, Thursday, August 4, 2005, in Baghdad’s Karradah Kharej Street.

Both individuals are "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention. Mr. Pouyan is a political refugee from Italy.

Based on precise information obtained by the Iranian Resistance, the kidnappers are members of the Ninth Badr Brigade affiliated with the Interior Ministry’s Special Forces. The two PMOI members were first taken to a floor at the Interior Ministry.

The abducted individuals are "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention. I would like to ask you to undertake necessary steps to prevent the hand over of the two PMOI members to Iran and save their lives.
