EU Presidency emphasizes the importance of respecting the human rights of Camp Ashraf residents

 NCRI – In response to a question by Mr. Kent Olsson, a member of the Swedish Parliament regarding the situation in Camp Ashraf, the Swedish Foreign Minister, whose country holds the current presidency of the European Union, said that “Sweden is following the developments regarding the situation in Camp Ashraf, including through its embassy in Baghdad.” 

“The violence that has been going on in the camp is alarming and has led to several deaths, but the situation now appears to have been stabilized to some extent,”  the Swedish foreign minister, Carl Bildt said in a statement published in website of the Swedish parliament.

According to the statement, Mr. Kent Olsson had asked the Swedish foreign minister that how “Sweden as the Chair of the European Union intends to follow up European Parliament resolution of 24 April 2009 on Camp Ashraf, and work to improve and secure conditions for the residents of Camp Ashraf.”

The Swedish foreign minister also added: “In response to recent events in Camp Ashraf, the EU Presidency on the ground in Baghdad has been in contact with Iraqi authorities to emphasize the importance of respecting the human rights of the camp’s residents.”
