Egyptian lawyers warn against forcible displacement of Camp Ashraf residents

Camp Ashraf residents wounded during July attackNCRI – In a letter to Iraqi human rights minister, a group of Egyptian lawyers warned about the displacement of Ashraf residents and called on Iraqi government to cancel any such move. They also called to end the cruel restrictions imposed on Camp Ashraf residents, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

In their letter to Ms. Wejdan Mikhail Salem, they said that we were shocked by the Iraqi government’s decision on forcible displacement of Ashraf residents to a remote area in Iraq while a Spanish court has ordered an investigation into the incidents of July 28 and 29 in Camp Ashraf.

Egyptian lawyers said: “Displacement of Ashraf residents will follow by attacks on them and their killing and wounding. The decision was a shock to all judicial community that monitors the legal and humanitarian conditions of Camp Ashraf. Isn’t it the time to end the injustice and limitations imposed on Camp Ashraf residents?”

The letter added: “We are afraid of any measures or forcible displacement of Ashraf residents that would undoubtedly result in killing and injuring of the residents ten times more than the July 28 and 29 incidents.”

The Egyptian lawyers emphasized, “We, as the lawyers of Camp Ashraf residents monitor their treatment and call for an end to blockade of the camp including barring doctors, food and medicine to the camp.”
