Denmark Iran committee calls on US and UN to keep promises made to Camp Liberty residents

Friends of Free Iran in Denmark letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon:
Unfortunately, we have found that Camp Liberty again has been targeted with deadly missile attack on the night of 26 December 2013.

So far as reported 3 people have been killed and a large number of people have been wounded. This is the fourth attack in 2013.

We have repeatedly warned against these attacks and believe that our warnings have been ignored.

UN and U.S. have been silent about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Iraq. We have been deeply concerned about the security situation of the residents of Camp Liberty.

Coalition and the least United States, gave all Iranians in Camp Ashraf refugee and “Protected Person” status pursuant to the Geneva Convention.

We know that Maliki receives support from Iran for the upcoming election campaign in which he wants to be inaugurated for the third time. He has proven to be very loyal to the spiritual leader Khamenei in Iran. We have seen his complete lack of respect and commitment to international law when it comes to Iranian refugees.

We fear that the attack on Camp Liberty is just the beginning of more killings and executions of a large number of refugees who have been removed from Camp Ashraf and moved to Camp Liberty based on a decision by UN Secretary General representative in Iraq, Martin Kobler, against the residents’ wishes.

U.S. and UN therefore need to be more responsible for the residents of Camp Liberty.

You must require of Iraq to cease murder and killing the residents of Camp Liberty.

The U.S. government’s inaction, with regards to the killings of residents, is in itself a violation of the principles of international humanitarian law.

The killings of the residents in a UN camp is unacceptable. We therefore condemn this brutal and inhumane attacks. We call upon the UN and the United States to keep the promises they made the residents of Camp Liberty.
