Congressman Poe: U.S. must ensure safety and security of Iranians in Camp Liberty, Iraq

Statement by Congressman Poe is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Non-proliferation and Trade, December 26, 2013

“Today, Camp Liberty in Iraq once again came under attack when dozens of missiles rained down over the camp, killing at least two and severely injuring at least fifty others. It is no coincidence that this attack came shortly after Prime Minister al-Maliki’s visit to Iran. By now, Prime Minister Maliki has made it painfully obvious that he has no intention of protecting the citizens of Camp Liberty. This is the fourth missile attack on Camp Liberty in 2013, yet no one has been held accountable.

It is time for the United States demand action from Prime Minister Maliki. We should immediately freeze aid to Iraq until he finds and punishes the criminals responsible for these attacks. Perhaps the Administration should spend less time trying to appease Iran and more time working to ensure the safety and security of the Iranian freedom fighters residing in Camp Liberty.”
