A group of residents of Camp Liberty in Iraq staged a protest against the tyrannical siege imposed on their camp by the Iraqi agents and called on the United Nations and the Government of Iraq to connect their camp to the national electric grid, Iraqi al-Taghier TV reported.

Camp Liberty which is located close to the Baghdad International Airport is home to over 2500 Iranian dissidents who are under an inhuman siege by the Iraqi forces affiliated with the Iranian regime.

The residents who staged this protest announced that the Iraqi agents are imposing a suffocating blockade on their camp, al-Taghier reported. Residents stated that on numerous occasions they have asked the United Nations and the Iraqi government to connect the camp to the nationwide electric grid to no avail.

A female resident who was participating in this protest said: “We, the residents of Camp Liberty, are holding this gathering to protest the intolerable condition that we are living in which is caused by this criminal blockade.”

“The temperature in Iraq rises, especially in summer, and becomes scorching hot. Thus we have called on the representative of the United Nations and Government of Iraq and we continue to call on them to connect Camp Liberty to the nationwide electric grid in Baghdad, but the management of the camp has not accepted this request,” she said. “We call on the United Nations and the pertinent bodies involved with human rights to recognize Liberty as a refugee camp under the protection of the High Commissioner for Refugees.”

The electricity in Camp Liberty is provided by worn out generators that consume too much fuel and residents are facing serious problems in this regard.

This inhuman siege obstructs entry of fuel and spare parts for the generators to the camp and thus has turned living conditions intolerable.

So far 26 residents have lost their lives to the siege that is imposed on the camp.
