Belgian lawmakers demand release of Ashraf Seven

Belgian lawmakers have called on their government to act urgently to free the seven hostages taken captive during the Camp Ashraf massacre and provide security for the 3,100 residents at Camp Liberty.

The Belgian Senate session, attended by Iranian resistance president-elect Maryam Rajavi, also condemned the US, EU and United Nations for failing to keep promises made to Iranian dissidents in Iraq.

Mrs Rajavi told the lawmakers in a speech on December 3 that Iran was endangering the entire in its drive to acquire a nuclear bomb.

She said: “This regime, through its support and conduct of fundamentalism, has targeted Muslim communities all across European countries, including Belgium. This regime is smashing up the Middle East through war and terrorism.

“Inside Iran, this regime is at war with the Iranian people through its gross violations of human rights, including executing an average of over three individuals a day.”

Mrs Rajavi said of the Geneva nuclear deal between Iran and the West: “Until uranium enrichment isn’t fully halted in Iran and the mullahs have not accepted the additional protocol, and until they have not fully implemented the UN Security Council resolutions, the key of bomb-making remains in their hands.

“The danger of an atomic bomb exists. They are deceptive and very easily violate any commitment. The mullahs count on two elements in this regard: their own deception and the weak policy of the West, especially the US. This is what gives them the opportunity to play with the atomic bomb.

“The West must compel the mullahs to give in to snap inspections, dismantle all nuclear sites and oxidizing all uranium stockpiles, and refrain from any international sanctions relief against the Iranian regime until the regime accepts all UN Security Council resolutions.”

She added: “To cover up its internal weakness, the Iranian regime has intensified suppression and is attempting to above all destroy its main opposition and alternative, especially in Camp Liberty.”

She called on the international community, especially the European Union and the leaders of its member states, to honour their pledges to protect Iranian dissidents in the face of ‘the most vicious crackdown’ by Iran.

Other speakers stressed that the main goal of Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki’s trip to Tehran was to obtain Tehran’s support for his third term as the Prime Minister.

The session was chaired by Senator Dirk Claes, chair of the Belgian Committee for Iran Freedom, and among those present were Mrs Rajavi, Senator Nele Lijnen, Chair of Senate Equal rights Committee; Els Demol, MP, Gerald Kindermans, MP, Quaestor of Parliament; Prof. Eric David, head of International Law Center at U.L.B; Pierre Galand, head of World Organisation Against Torture – European Office (OMCT-Europe); Tahar Boumedra, former Head of UN Human Rights Office in Baghdad and Paulo Casaca, former member of European Parliament.
