Camp Ashraf is home to more than 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
“Iraq must provide the residents protection and enough resources so that they can live with dignity,” Dr. al-Hashemi said, adding, “Ashraf residents must also comply with the behaviors, regulations and principles stipulated in the Fourth Geneva Convention.”
Dr. al-Hashemi, who is also a leader in the Iraqiya List, a national coalition which won the most parliamentary seats during the March elections, responded to questions about the most urgent political issues in Iraq, including Iraqiya’s priority for forming a government and the importance of heading Iraq’s judiciary.
“Iraqiya’s priority is the position of prime minister while other positions will be contingent on a consensus. The importance of the Minister of Justice position must also be acknowledged,” the Iraqi Vice President added.
