NCRI – The Arab delegation of women lawyers in defence of 1,000 female residents of Camp Ashraf has issued a statement on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, underscoring the imperative of defending the rights of Iranian women in Camp Ashraf against the onslaught of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Camp Ashraf, Iraq, is home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
The statement said women in Camp Ashraf, who are at the forefront of the liberation movement in Iran, have been subjected to mistreatment by the Iranian regime’s agents in Iraq.
“These cruel actions are being committed even though women in Ashraf are subject to protections under the Fourth Geneva Convention,” it added.
“Restrictions on access to medical care and medicine for women is one of these crimes. Moreover, Iraqi agents affiliated with the regime’s intelligence services have installed 210 loudspeakers around the hospital and the residences of women in Ashraf, blaring insults and harassing patients at the hospital.”
It said a committee tasked with the suppression of Ashraf at Nouri al-Maliki’s office is carrying out “repeated attacks against the women and men in Ashraf leading to deaths and injuries among the residents, especially among women.”
“We call on the world community to immediately intervene to end the crimes committed by the Maliki suppression committee and the regime’s agents, including violations of women’s rights,” the statement added.
