The Iraqi paper added that Mashaan al-Saedi has said that the residents of Ashraf and US officials have signed agreements where in exchange for disarmament of the camp, the US has promised to protect the residents until the determination of their final status in accordance with international human rights law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
In a statement, Mr. Saedi called on all international organizations to oppose any plans to displace the residents to another location inside Iraq. He also called for investigations into an April attack against the camp as well as other cases of violations of the human rights of the residents.
Mr. Saedi added that the siege on Ashraf must be lifted and urged a productive dialogue to resolve the situation for the residents.
