Afghan senators express ‘deep concern’ over security of Iranian dissidents in Iraq

NCRI – Afghan senators have harshly criticised the systematic violation of human rights in Iran and expressed their ‘deep concern’ over the security of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty in Iraq.

Senators in Kabul issued the condemnation in a strongly-worded statement this week, also attacking the Iranian regime’s nuclear program and terrorism.

They wrote: “We express our abhorrence at the systematic violation of human rights in Iran, which continues despite widespread international condemnation.

“We also express our strong concerns over Iran’s secret nuclear program and its terrorist meddling in the region and across the globe.

“The Iranian people and international community seek democratic change in Iran in 2013.

“We also call on our government and the United Nations Secretary-General to refer Iran’s human rights violations dossier to the UN Security Council and to demand the prosecution of those who committed these crimes in Iran.”

They also wrote of their fears the security of Camp Liberty residents after the February 9 rocket attack which left eight people dead and more than 100 injured.

They added: “To this day the most urgent matter is the security of Camp Liberty residents, and they are facing such threats and dangers at every moment.

“Therefore, we call on the UN Refugee Agency to immediately return them to Ashraf, which has been their residence for the past 26 years, because Ashraf is 80 times larger than Liberty prison and is much more secure against such attacks.”

Camp Liberty and Camp Ashraf in Iraq houses over 3,000 Iranian opposition members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
