Congressman Cohen Condemns Attack on Camp Liberty

Nov 5, 2015

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement condemning the terrorist attack on Camp Liberty in Baghdad, Iraq that killed 24 residents of the camp and injured dozens more.

“I strongly condemn the brutal and senseless October 29th attack on Camp Liberty in Iraq,” said Congressman Cohen. “At least 80 rockets were fired on the residents leaving 24 people dead. This is the seventh attack on Camp Liberty and marks a clear failure of the Iraqi government to provide for the safety and security of the residents at Camp Liberty. The Iraqi government must uphold its commitments outlined in the 2011 Memorandum of Understanding to provide security to the camp to ensure attacks like these never happen again. My condolences go out to the families of the victims, and I hope for a speedy recovery to those injured.”

Congressman Cohen is a Co-chair of the Iranian Human Rights and Democracy Caucus and serves as a Commissioner on the U.S. Helsinki Commission.
