Iran News: Protests Erupt on April 9, 2024, over Economic Grievances

On Tuesday, April 9, shareholders of Sedid Company gathered in Tehran, retirees from national and social security organizations assembled in Ahvaz, and farmers demonstrated in Isfahan, voicing their grievances through protests.

In Tehran, shareholders of Sedid Company staged a protest demonstration, expressing their discontent over various economic issues.

Meanwhile, retirees gathered in front of the governorate in Ahvaz, carrying banners with slogans such as “How long will this shame continue? It’s a matter of life or death,” highlighting their frustrations with the current economic conditions.

In Isfahan, farmers continued their seventh day of strikes, protesting against the closure of the Zayandeh Rud River, which has severely impacted agricultural activities in the region.

These protests reflect the widespread economic challenges facing different segments of Iranian society, from shareholders concerned about their investments to retirees struggling with financial insecurity and farmers grappling with water shortages. As discontent grows over economic policies and conditions, authorities are facing mounting pressure to address the grievances of the populace or to face the repercussions of their malign policies and adventurous priorities.

Meanwhile, workers at the Karun-4 Dam in Lordegan County demanded the payment of two months’ worth of unpaid salaries and Eid bonuses. The workers had not received their full wages for up to six months, with the contractor citing a lack of liquidity as the reason for the delays.

Lordegan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, is located in western Iran.

This issue was part of a broader problem of delayed wage payments affecting workers across various industries in Iran, including teachers and retirees. The delayed wages were causing significant financial hardship for the workers and their families, as many struggled to make ends meet.
