Iran News: Former Officials Warn of Consequences of Iran’s Role in Middle East Crisis

Following escalating tensions in the region and amid international concerns over the role of the Iranian regime in the current crisis, some former officials have reacted strongly to the bellicose statements made by their counterparts, issuing warnings of the potential consequences.

Abdollah Ganji, the former editor-in-chief of the state-run Hamshahri newspaper, responded to the statement issued by the Coalition Council of Islamic Revolution Forces (SHANA) regarding Israel’s attack on the Iranian embassy, showing concern.

Ganji wrote on X, “Khaled Mashal, Hassan Nasrallah, commanders of the Revolutionary Guard, and the foreign minister all stated that we were not informed about the Operation Al-Aqsa Storm; how did SHANA understand that Commander Zahedi had a role [in the planning of Operation Storm of Al-Aqsa], and unintentionally introduced him as a legitimate target for the Zionists?”

Following the attack on the Iranian regime consulate in Damascus and the killing of Revolutionary Guard commanders, the coalition hailed the slain IRGC Quds Force commander Mohammad Ali Zahedi for his role in creating the Resistance Front and designing the Operation Al-Aqsa Storm [October 7 attacks].

On the other hand, Hashemollah Falahatpisheh, the former head of the Security Commission of the regime’s parliament, expressed apprehension about the consequences of confessions regarding the regime’s role in warmongering in Gaza.

Falahatpisheh stated, “During the past few days, some individuals have raised destructive claims about Zahedi’s role in the October 7 events, and some have resorted to historical distortion. No one in Iran was aware of October 7 and they were caught off guard.”

He added, “In the current situation, Iran is isolated; let’s not make a strategic mistake… Just a few days have passed since Israel’s missile attack on our consulate building in Syria and the killing of military advisors. Meanwhile, hardliners are repeating immediate retaliation from various platforms. Individuals who used to talk about various political speeches and rhetoric in normal circumstances had never experienced the conditions of these past few days, where suddenly their speeches and political rhetoric put pressure on the state’s strategies.”
