The European Union Council has extended sanctions against the Iranian regime and updated the list of sanctioned individuals. According to a statement issued, the EU Council has extended restrictive measures against the Iranian regime until April 13, 2025. This decision, announced on April 4, aims to address human rights concerns in Iran, resulting in the addition of 17 individuals, including senior officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the State Security Forces (SSF), accused of participating in the suppression of protests and human rights violations.
The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans for the listed individuals.
The 17 new individuals added to the EU sanctions list, as stated in the EU Council’s statement, are:
- Ali Fadli, commander of Imam Hossein University
- Bahram Hosseini Motlagh, faculty member of Imam Hossein University and head of the planning and operations department of the Armed Forces General Staff
- Ahmad Radan, Commander-in-Chief of the State Security Forces
- Hossein Taeb, Advisor to the IRGC Commander-in-Chief
- Mohammad Saleh Jokar, member of Parliament and Head of the Internal Affairs and Councils Commission
- Mahmoud Salar Kia, Judiciary attorney and former deputy prosecutor general in Tehran
- Asadollah Jafari, Chief of the judiciary in Isfahan province
- Seyyed Reza Mousavi Tabar, prosecutor’s representative for judges in Shiraz
- Gholamreza Ziaee, former director of Evin Prison
- Hassan Shahvarpour, commander of the IRGC in Khuzestan province
- Ebrahim Kouchzaee, former police chief in Chabahar
- Ahmad Taheri, advisor to the SSF Chief
- Majid Souri, Head of the Rahian-e-Noor and Tourism Organization (an organization that arranges visits to war zones and historical battlefields)
- Mohsen Karimi, IRGC commander in Markazi province
- Alireza Heydarnia, IRGC commander in Alborz province
- Seyyed Hamid Sajjadi, member of the Supreme Council of Sports and former Minister of Sports and Youth
- Mohsen Nikvarz, Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Sirjan
