Fox News published an interview with an Iranian prisoner, obtained through the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), about Iranian prisoners’ situation amid the coronavirus outbreak across Iran.
According to the reports published by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK), because of the Iranian regime’s cover-up and inaction, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of over 5,950 people as of Tuesday, March 17.

Iran coronavirus: Political prisoners on hunger strike in protest to government mismanagement
A group of political prisoners in Greater Tehran Prison (Fashafuyeh) have gone on a hunger strike in protests to the government’s intentional refusal to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) among prisoners. The move comes while Iran is grappling with the contagious spread of the virus due to the regime’s secrecy and mismanagement. So far, COVID-19 has claimed more than 5,950 lives across Iran.
“They are burying us alive,” the prisoners wrote in an open letter in which they declared their hunger strike. “A number of people died in this prison due to coronavirus.”

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced this afternoon, Tuesday, March 17, that the Coronavirus death toll has reached 5,950 in 194 cities in all of Iran’s 31 provinces.
The number of victims in Isfahan, Gilan, Khorasan Razavi, and Fars provinces respectively is 600, 733, 501, and 152. The situation in Hamadan, Markazi and Yazd provinces is getting worse with 129, 115, and 120 losing their lives respectively. The names of 100 victims in Aran and Bidgol in Isfahan province have been obtained by Resistance Units.

“I returned to the city today. They’re burying many coronavirus victims in the city’s Behesht-e Masoumeh cemetery… All the COVID-19 deaths are buried in this cemetery… The first 70 coronavirus victims were buried here and there when authorities didn’t know what to do. There is a cemetery near the Central Prison where several inmates who died of COVID-19 have been buried in a mass grave. Most of them were political prisoners. Authorities now have found a method to eliminate these prisoners and the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) is behind these measures… The situation in Qom is quite devastating. I know many friends who are very concerned about their phones being under surveillance… At least 2,500 people have died to this day. From 2,200 to 2,300 are buried in the coronavirus section of Behesht-e Masoumeh cemetery… There are five families in grief in the neighborhood that I’m living in. The authorities are extremely concerned and going the distance in their measures to keep a lid on the truth… It has become known to everyone that authorities are ordering everyone involved to not report the truth about the number of people who have died of COVID-19. WHAT ARE THE IRAN PROTESTS OF 2019?
Wednesday, March 18, 2020, marks the 125th day since the beginning of the nationwide Iran protests.
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has identified 755 of the more than 1500 protesters killed by the regime so far.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has called on the United Nations to urgently send an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons to meet with the detainees.
