UN experts in Yemen to examine arms smuggling by Iranian regime

NCRI – UN experts arrived in Sanaa Friday evening to inspect weapons and ammunition smuggled on board a ship, the interior ministry said.

According to Yemeni officials, the preliminary investigations suggested the weapons originated in Iran.

The ship’s arms cargo contained high and powerful explosives materials of RDX, C4 and Sorbitol in addition to Iranian-made anti-aircraft missiles and Katyusha rockets, according to a statement of the Interior Ministry.

The ship was loaded with nearly 40 tons of weapons, explosives and missiles, hided in one of the ship’s seven tanks made for carrying diesel.

The seizure also included small arms ammunition, ground-to-ground rockets, explosives, Iranian- and Russian-made military-grade binoculars, missile tubes and battery units along with other weapons and military equipment.

The experts will examine the weapons on the ship which was intercepted and seized by Yemeni and international forces in Yemeni territorial waters last month, said the ministry in a statement.
