NCRI representative office welcomes conviction against MOIS agent in Germany and calls for prosecution and expulsion of other Iran regime spies
The Iranian Resistance welcomes the conviction against an agent of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) for spying on the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). It calls on the government of Germany and other European countries to bring an end to the activities of MOIS agents on their soil, and to prosecute, sentence and expel them.
The prosecution of Meysam Panahi and other spies of the Iranian regime in Germany is necessary to ensure the safety of the regime’s opponents and members and supporters of the Iranian Resistance who are victims of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran. This is a necessary step but is not enough; the regime’s spy network abroad and the officials of the regime responsible for running these networks in its various embassies must be prosecuted, sentenced and deported. Mullah Alavi, the regime’s Intelligence Minister, who oversees this network must be brought to justice. The majority of previously exposed members of the MOIS whose ties to the Iranian regime’s terrorism and spying mafia have been established continue to carry out their spying activities and cooperation with the MOIS freely across Europe, in particular in Germany.
According to evidence revealed at the court, Meysam Panahi worked as a spy for at least three years and received payments on at least 30 occasions from a senior MOIS officer called Sajjad totaling 28,600 Euros. He furthermore was engaged in recruiting members for the MOIS’s spy ring. He also admitted that he provided sensitive information about Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty in Iraq, where thousands of PMOI members have been residing, to Sajjad.
According to witness testimony and evidence unveiled at the court, which corroborates reports by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Iranian regime’s Intelligence Ministry created secret networks in Germany, attempting to spy on and spread misinformation to discredit the Iranian Resistance. The main target of these activities have been the PMOI and NCRI, as the main opposition to the regime.
The court showed that the individuals who were recruited by the MOIS in Hotel Mohajer in Baghdad or in Iran, exploited their refugee status to guarantee their residency in Germany and thereafter work for the mullahs’ MOIS in European countries in exchange for receiving money. These individuals travel to Iran with the support of the regime’s embassies in order to receive training and briefings. They receive their salaries as cash payments or via the Western Union money transfer systems. According to court documents, despite holding the status of a refugee, Meysam Panahi had secretly travelled to Iran to receive espionage training.
According to Panahi’s own admission, the MOIS drains these mercenaries for information in particular about the constructions and the residents of Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty. From 2009-2016 these camps have come under at least eight military and rocket attacks, leaving 141 killed and more than 1400 injured. The Iranian regime’s affiliated terrorists and militias have used that information to massacre Iranian refugees who are members of the Resistance at the two camps. Those who have cooperated with the mullahs’ regime in sharing intelligence are party to these crimes.
