Khamenei ridiculously claimed that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency was the most beloved one in the past 100 years of the Iranian history. He added, “I call on [Dick] Cheney and the group which today runs the United States to balance your government against our government. Weigh your president against our president. In the past one hundred years, since the constitutional revolution in Iran, we have never had a more beloved government than that of the Ahmadinejad’s.”
Not only do Khamenei’s remarks echo his fear and that of the entire religious dictatorship of firm actions by the international community, they also indicate that as long as this regime exists stability and democracy would not take root in the Middle East.
Khamenei’s announcement came only two days after the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany announced that they had put together a package of incentives for the regime, clearly showing that offering further concessions to the mullahs would only embolden them to stand against the will of the international community and give them what they need the most to obtain nuclear weapons: Time.
