Assassination of Iraqi parliament deputy an attempt to forestall formation of nationalist governmentAssassination of Iraqi parliament deputy an attempt to forestall formation of nationalist, non-sectarian government

NCRI – Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the assassination of Dr. Bashar Hamed al-Kaidi, Member of Iraqi Parliament from al-Iraqiya Coalition, and expresses its condolences to his family, al-Iraqiya and its leaders and people of Iraq. It also wishes rapid recovery for his brother who was injured in this criminal operation.

This heinous crime is part of the Iranian regime’s efforts and meddling in Iraq aimed at recovering from a disgraceful defeat it had suffered in the Iraqi Parliamentary elections last March and forestalling the formation of a nationalist and non-sectarian government in Iraq.

Dr. al-Kaidi, assassinated in Mosul yesterday, was a staunch opponent of the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq and considered it as the main source of problems in that country including killings, bombings and election fraud and the main obstacle to the formation of a government based on the result of the elections.

Before anything, the assassination of Mr. al-Kaidi similar to the elimination and purge of a number of other winners of elections, demonstrates the Iranian regime's fear of formation of a nationalist and non-sectarian government in Iraq. An impartial international investigation to identify the perpetrators and those responsible for this crime as well as bombings and other terrorist crimes in Iraq, will no doubt reveal the role of the Iranian regime's agents.

Following this terrorist incident, Dr. Ussama Al-Nujaifi, an al-Iraqiya leader, held Nuri al-Maliki's government responsible. He said, "The government is responsible for this ordeal. This happened due to government negligence. This is a criminal act that has targeted al-Iraqiya slate. Al-Iraqiya is not in government and does not have any weapons but it is targeted by the government and the intention is to undermine it.
