Call to save the lives of female political prisoners; International Commission of Inquiry must visit Iranian prisons

On Monday night, September 14, the criminal director of Qarchak Prison in Varamin ordered two hired thugs to attack two political prisoners, Forough Taghipour and Parastou Mo’ini.

The Two mercenaries, named Zeinab Ghanbarnejad (Zeinab Saratani) and Narges Amir Ali, attacked political prisoners in ward six of Qarchak Prison with hot water flasks. Other women prisoners defended Forough Taghipour and Parastou Mo’ini to prevent hot water from being poured on them. During this time, the hands and feet of several prisoners were burnt due to boiling water.

The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran had previously said in a statement on August 24, “On the orders of the prison warden of Qarchak, dangerous criminals have been sent to the ward where political prisoners are detained to incite fights and brutalize them.” It had warned, “The lives of political prisoners Forough Taqipour, Parastoo Mo’ini, and Zahra Safaei are seriously in danger. Zahra Safaei had previously received death threats from several hired inmates on June 13, 2020.”

The NCRI’s Women’s Committee calls for urgent action by the United Nations and other human rights and women’s rights organizations to save the lives of female political prisoners in Iran. It also calls for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iranian prisons and to meet with political prisoners, especially women.

Torture and ill-treatment are a well-known method used by the clerical regime against political prisoners. Silence and inaction in the face of criminal executions are considered a green light for continued repression, torture, and execution.
