Mrs. Rajavi hails IAEA resolution, calls for immediate sanctions against mullahs

Commenting on the adoption of IAEA’s resolution on the Iranian regime’s nuclear program, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect, said the resolution underscored the mullahs’ repeated concealment and persistent breach of the NPT, and emphasized that the United Nations Security Council was the competent body to address these violations.

"This represented a major political and international victory for the Iranian people and Resistance in their confrontation with the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran," she said, adding that the Iranian people, especially members and supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, must be congratulated on this victory.

Mrs. Rajavi hailed patriotic Iranians and Resistance’s supporters across Iran who put themselves in great danger as they tried to provide information and details on the mullahs’ ominous and unpatriotic nuclear projects to the Iranian Resistance, which in turn revealed them to prevent the regime from acquiring the nuclear bomb.

Mrs. Rajavi added that the revelation of the mullahs’ nuclear program by the Iranian Resistance in the early 1990s, especially the uncovering of Natanz and Arak projects in summer 2002 informed the world of this threat to world peace, leaving no doubt as to the mullahs’ evil intentions. "The lack of a decisive policy vis-à-vis the clerical regime has so far caused a three-year delay in referring Tehran’s nuclear file to the Security Council and allowed the mullahs to get closer to the nuclear bomb," she said.

Mrs. Rajavi recalled, "In all these years, the Iranian Resistance insisted that Tehran’s nuclear file must be referred to the Security Council. Now that the IAEA resolution has been adopted, giving any further opportunity to the regime in the hope that it would change its nuclear policy will be tantamount to providing more time to the enemy of humanity. This would run counter to international peace and security and the Iranian nation’s highest interests." "On behalf of the Iranian people and Resistance, therefore, I stress the need for the immediate and definitive referral of the Iranian regime’s nuclear file to the Security Council," she added.

Mrs. Rajavi said that by imposing comprehensive sanctions, especially an oil embargo, the mullahs’ must not be allowed to use the Iranian people’s resources and foreign technology against the Iranian people, acquire nuclear weapons and endanger peace and tranquility in the region and the world.

The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect noted that the policy of appeasement in the past few years has led to inaction vis-à-vis the clerical regime’s human rights abuses as well as export of terrorism and fundamentalism. She expressed the hope that the Security Council would consider the mullahs’ inhuman crimes against the Iranian people and its efforts to export terrorism and fundamentalism, especially in Iraq, which has clearly endangered the entire region.
