The clerical regime has resorted to diffusing noise signals specially on the section that houses political prisoners in order to prevent telephone conversations of Gohardasht inmates and any spreading of the news about the catastrophic situation of this dreadful prison.
This inhumane act is seriously endangering the health of prisoners. Prisoners suffer from dry mucosa, muscle aches and severe headaches. This measure takes place after the mullahs’ regime had tried to confiscate phones that have made it into the prison by vigorous searches.
Noise diffusion is while according to the regime’s organization of prisons chief, the official capacity of this prison is 5000, but now 22,000 prisoners are piled up there. Lack of space is such that prisoners cannot even sit. Resting is intermittent and prisoners need to use spaces within the restrooms to rest.
Hygiene condition in the prison is very alarming due to the lack of tap water, and the contamination of well water by the sewage system leads to the spread of infectious diseases among prisoners. Failure of prison health services and contamination of prison sanitation to sewage system, and lack of minimum bathing facilities has led to skin diseases among prisoners. Prison clinic lacks the minimum facilities, and prisoners who generally suffer from various diseases, are deprived from access to medical specialists and the minimum required health care.
Very limited food rations also cause malnutrition and more frequent disease diseases. Beginning of the cold season and the lack of heating facilities has added into the severity of the condition of this dungeon.
The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights bodies and the international community to condemn the disastrous situation of Gohardasht prison and calls for immediate action to stop the diffusion of noise signals on the prison.
