The grand gathering of Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance from 69 countries across the globe began in the Villepinte Hall in Paris at 1430 on Friday, June 27, with the participation of 600 political dignitaries, legislators and jurists from a wide spectrum of political tendencies .

Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance and the keynote speaker to the event, said regarding the developments in Iraq: “From day one, due to its geopolitical position, Iraq was the most important prey for the Velayat-e faqih to export its reactionary ideals and terrorism. After the US attack on Iraq, the long sought dream of Velayat-e faqih was realized and the terrorist Quds Force took control over the fate of the Iraqi people. Indeed, the United States made a historic blunder by considering the ruling religious dictatorship as part of the solution and acquiescing to its joint governance of Iraq.”

She added: “The Iranian regime attempted fruitlessly to confront the Iraqi people’s uprising by characterizing the rebellion by millions of Iraqis as terrorism and actions of extremist groups. This was while tribal leaders and the people of Iraq have for weeks repeatedly condemned any form of extremism and terrorism as well as any assault and aggression against civilians. Today, there is widespread consensus internationally that the current state of affairs in Iraq emanates from Maliki’s monopolistic and suppressive policies. Thus, there is only one solution, which is to oust Maliki, to evict the Iranian regime from Iraq, and to establish a democratic and inclusive government. It is only the Iranian regime that openly supports the continuation of Maliki’s rule.”

Expressing concern about the conspiracies of the mullahs’ regime and Maliki against Ashraf and Liberty residents, Rajavi “underscored the responsibility of the United States and the UN Secretary General regarding the security, protection and safety” of these refugees. “We have repeatedly called on the United States to transfer the residents of Liberty to the US or a European country even on a temporary basis. We would pay for all the expenses of such relocation. As such, the United States must at least prevent the Iraqi regime from carrying out any attacks or aggression and imposing restrictions on the residents of Liberty. It must guarantee the security of Camp Liberty and work to end the inhumane siege against it.”

On the one hand they fear the internal and international consequences of continuing the policy of acquiring nuclear weapons and on the other hand they are worried of the internal reverbrations of retreating from this policy and the crumbling of their regime. They want to take advantage of the West appeasement policy as much as possible to buy time and leave open the path to acquiring nuclear weapons.” She added that any possible agreement with the Iranian regime must include the following:

“Accepting the Additional Protocol and snap inspections of all of the regime’s sites; unrestricted interviews with all those involved; stopping all of the regime’s nuclear sites and projects, including Arak, Natanz and Fordow; holding the Iranian regime accountable for violation of human rights in Iran and genocide in Syria and Iraq, parallel to the nuclear negotiations.”

In evaluating the one year record of Mullah Rouhani, the so-called ‘moderate’ president of the mullahs’ regime, Maryam Rajavi said: “One year ago, I warned those in the West who were talking about quick changes. I told them nothing will change with Rouhani and just regime’s crises will intensify. Now, one year after Rouhani’s election, the situation is extremely critical in all aspects. Once again it was proven that ‘moderation’ inside this regime is merely a mirage. All of the regime’s strategic reserves have been used and it is facing a lethal dead-end in all realms.”
The President-elect of the Iranian Resistance underscored: “The reality is that the engine and primary force that guides the developments is neither the tug of war between the regime and the US in the nuclear file nor the infighting between the two ruling factions. The main battle has been and is between the Iranian people and their Resistance and the ruling theocracy. Change in Iran is inevitable but not from within the regime, but through the Iranian people and their Resistance. The Iranian people want regime change and the Iranian Resistance is the guiding force. This Resistance is the main player in any serious and essential development in Iran. That is why the mullahs are attempting to delay their overthrow by increasing executions, massacring the PMOI in Ashraf and Camp Liberty, and resorting to deceptive propaganda.” She reminded that the Iranian Resistance is seeking a republic based on separation of church and state, gender equality, annulment of the death penalty, and a non-nuclear Iran. She added: “Today’s gathering reflects the will of the Iranian people from all walks of life, including political prisoners, for freedom and democracy. The time has come for the international community to stand with the Iranian people.”
