Six months following death of Camp Ashraf resident, Bardia Amir Mostofian, the Iraqi government, in continuation of its anti-Islamic and uncivilized conduct, refuses to turn over his body to his brother or to his Camp Liberty friends for proper burial. The late Mostofian’s brother as well has his friends at Camp Liberty have repeatedly contacted the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Martin Kobler, UNAMI officials and Iraqi government to no avail.
According to news from circles internal to the Iranian regime, the Ministry of Intelligence and Security of Mullah’s regime (MOIS) is planning to send two members pretending to be family members of late Mostofian, to receive his body. This action is coordinated with the Iranian regime embassy in Baghdad and the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office.
This is an inhumane and unlawful act being committed by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and must immediately be condemned by UNAMI and the SRSG.
Mr. Martin Kobler has been contacted by Camp Ashraf and Liberty residents and their representatives as well as Mostofian’s brother and family repeatedly via letters, telephone asking him to protest the delay by the Iraqi government to return his body for proper burial. Mr. Kobler has ignored all contacts until now.
Mr. Tahmoureth Amir Mostofian, the late Mostofian’s brother in Germany, informed Mr. Kobler on August 17, 2012, that his family in Iran has made no request to transfer his body to Iran.
Bardia Amir Mostofian, 44, was a political refugee from Germany and one of the Camp Ashraf residents who relocated to Camp Liberty on March 20, 2012. He was harshly harassed during the relocation procedure by Iraqi forces and after 48 hours of a torturous inspection, he was relocated to Camp Liberty, but died a few hours after arrival. Iraqi physicians attributed his death to a cardiac arrest due to exhaustion and insomnia.
The Iranian resistance is calling on the United Nations to prevent the Iranian regime’s plan to steal late Mostofian’s body and asks that it be turned over to his brother or friends in Camp Liberty for a proper burial.
