Iran: Arrest of Released Prisoners, Supporters, and Families of the MEK in Fear of Uprising

NCRI

In the face of the escalating uprising, the inhumane regime of the mullahs has once again resorted to the arrest of recently released prisoners, supporters, and families of the members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and residents of Ashraf 3.

Forough Taghipour, whose father and sister are among the MEK members in Ashraf 3 and whose uncle and two aunts have been martyred by the IRGC, was apprehended on August 21 in Tehran. This comes as she had only recently been released from captivity.

Forough Taghipour, 29, was initially detained in March 2020 alongside her mother Nasim Jabbari on charges of affiliation with the MEK. She was imprisoned for 5 years on the charge of connection and support for the MEK, and propaganda against the regime. She was freed from the Evin Women’s Ward in February 2023.

Concurrently, Marzieh Farsi, whose brother and two sisters are residents of Ashraf 3, and whose other brother, Hassan Farsi, was executed in the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, was arrested on August 21, 2023, in Tehran. Marzieh Farsi, 58 years old and a mother of two, suffers from severe, incurable illnesses. Previously, on February 18, 2020, she was arrested at her residence in Shahr-e Ray on charges of connection and collaboration with the MEK. She was released from the women’s ward of Evin Prison in March 2023.

The religious fascism ruling Iran futilely attempts to counter the people’s anger through suppression, execution, and massacre. Once again, the Iranian Resistance calls for the condemnation of these arbitrary arrests and for the visitation of an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons, and meet with the prisoners, especially the political prisoners.
