On Tuesday August 7th, prisoners of the Zahedan central prison protested against deteriorating conditions in the prison especially putting pressure on Sunni prisoners, and took control of the political prisoners section for few hours. The protest ended with the promise of the regime’s authorities to address their demands.
Following the incident, the prison special guards and hangmen assaulted the protesting prisoners and savagely injured them by tear gas, batons and electric shockers. Dozens of prisoners, who are Baluchi compatriots, were injured during the clashes with the agents. The hangmen refuse to provide care for the injured, some of whom are in critical conditions. The political prisoners’ section was set on fire caused by the attack of suppressive forces and was destroyed. Dozens of prisoners were transferred to unknown locations by the mullahs’ intelligence agents. A number of them have been transferred to either solitary confinement or the dangerous prisoners’ section. In these sections, mafia gangs associated with the prison guards and intelligence ministry are engaged in drug distribution and suppression of protesting prisoners.
A number of Urumiyah political prisoners, including imprisoned teacher Mohammad Amin Agoushi, Ahmad Poulad Khani and Iraj Mohammadi, who have recently been exiled in Zahedan prison, are also kept in the regular and dangerous prisoners’ section.
