NCRI – Thousands of students from Open University in Tehran held a gathering on Tuesday to protest against increased suppression and arrests of university students across the country.

Students join the protest which began at 12:30 p.m. local time. The participants expressed their anger against the clerical regime in its entirety by chanting slogans that included: “Death to dictator,” “Students die, but not humiliated” and “Basiji get lost.”

The planned demonstration which was announced in advance took place while two buses full of Bassij paramilitary forces were dispatched to the university to prevent demonstration. A number of students were also summoned for questioning yesterday by the regime’s security forces as part of the regime’s bid to intimidate them and prevent the demonstration from taking place.

In their brutal attack, the suppressive forces beat and wounded students and fired tear gas to disperse them. Thirteen students were arrested in these attacks.
