NCRI – On Saturday, in the second week of anti-government protests, more than 1,000 students packed full the Shiraz University campus chanting: "It is a path to victory" and "The runaway chancellor must resign."
The demonstrators backed by students from other colleges such as Bahonar Engineering College carried on through the day.
The State Security Forces (SSF) agents fearing the spread of protests to other parts of the city sealed off the entire university. However, the local residents paid no heed and supported the protesters.
At the same time, students of Bahonar College held an angry demonstration over a fellow student beaten up by the chief of the school’s security. They shouted: "University is not a military garrison" and "Student dies but will not be humiliation."
On February 28, more than 10 participating students in the sit-in were summoned by the local office of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MIOS). They were threatened with expulsion from school. In addition, the MOIS agents threatened families of 25 other students over the phone demanding that their children should stop anti- government activities.
Despite all the schemes by the suppressive SSF and security agents, the student activists announced their absolute resolve for continuing with their sit-in at the university campus.
Last week, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, lauded the student uprising in Shiraz University and reiterated that widespread student uprisings which is spreading to other universities across the country is indicative of the Iranian people’s deep-seated anger and hatred toward the religious fascism ruling Iran and the people’s desire for an end to the illegitimate regime in Tehran.
