Chemical attacks on girls’ schools continue in various cities

On Tuesday, March 7, teachers and students’ families held protest rallies against the poisoning of female students in Tehran and dozens of other cities despite suppressive measures. In Tehran, suppressive forces prevented teachers from gathering in front of the parliament with a large presence in Jomhuri Street and the area around the parliament, but teachers, along with people, especially women, protested in Jomhuri Street with the slogan “Death to the child-killing regime.” Families and teachers chanted the slogans “Basiji, IRGC, you are the same as ISIS” and “Death to the child-killing regime” outside the Department of Education in the 5th District of Tehran.

In other cities, including Ardabil, Karaj, Qazvin, Rasht, Babol, Lahijan, Mashhad, Kashmar, Neishabor, Zanjan, Isfahan, Sanandaj, Saqqez, Marivan, Kermanshah, Dalahu, Harsin, Aligudarz, Shiraz, Nurabad Mamasani, Semirom, Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and… protest gatherings were held outside education departments. The protestors chanted: “This is the final warning, there will be  revolt if you poison,” “Safety of schools is our inalienable right,” and “If we don’t unite, we will be killed one by one.” In their gatherings, teachers carried pamphlets that read: “Iran’s Boko Haram, poisoning girls,” “Poisoning of girls is considered as torture,” and “Inflation, high costs are the result of illiteracy.”

The students of Allameh University of Tehran protested the poisoning of students with the slogan “Freedom, Freedom, Freedom.” Suppressive forces surrounded the university, and security forces attacked the students and arrested a number of them.

Suppressive forces, especially the plainclothes agents, in many cities such as Mashhad, Isfahan, Rasht, Shiraz, and Marivan threw tear gas at teachers’ protests and made several arrests. The teachers confronted them by chanting, “Shame on you.”

The poisoning of students with toxic gas continued today. In Zahedan, two primary girls’ schools, Mahdiya and Qoreishi secondary school, were targets of chemical attacks, and at least 53 students were intoxicated and taken to the hospital. Avini girls’ schools in Saveh, Hazrat Zeinab school in Ganaveh, and a school in Dalahu city of Kermanshah were subjects of chemical attacks.

State-run ISNA news agency, March 6, quoted Mohammad Hossein Asefari, a member of the regime’s parliament and a member of the Student Poisoning Investigation Committee, saying: “Until yesterday, 25 provinces with approximately 230 schools have been involved, as a result of which more than 5,000 male and female students were poisoned”.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated that the anger and protests of teachers and educators in various cities are praiseworthy. The only way to stop the crimes of this regime, including against innocent children of this land, is an uprising and a democratic revolution. She added that the regime is trying to downplay the heinous crime of poisoning school students out of fear of backlash. Contrary to the regime’s lies, the toxic gases used in schools are not accessible to the public. Everything is produced and directed by organizations under the guidance of Khamenei.
