Outcry of Tehran University students: “Iran has become a prison; Evin prison has become a university”

Students’ Day Protests – Number 6

Tehran University was one of the main flashpoints of students’ protests since Tuesday, December 6, marking Student Day. At 12:00 noon, students and bystanders who had joined their ranks in support chanted: “Our clown government is our shame”, “Death to dictator” and “Death to this deceitful government.”

Special Units of the State Suppressive Forces surrounded the demonstrators, arresting a number of protesters.

In the University of Arts, the regime’s agents arrested three female students under the pretext of mal-veiling.

Protest gatherings were held at Scientific Research University, Water and Electricity Industrial University and Tehran’s Azad University – Eastern Unit), located at the Afsarie T-Junction, students chanted “Political prisoners must be freed” and “Death to Dictator.” Students of Ghiam Dasht University clashed with the regime’s Bassij agents.

Students uprising took place in Tehran and other cities amid extensive security and suppressive measures. Below are a number of suppressive measures and schemes of the regime:
– A special and secret meeting of Tehran’s Governor and Deputy Security Advisor, with the dean of Tehran University.
– Threats made against university faculty by elements of the Herasat (a branch of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence on university campuses) to prevent their participation in protests.
– Farhad Rahbar’s control on all status reports of universities and dormitories and other university related centers. He has obligated the Islamic Society agents to make remarks about active students to neutralize student calls to protests by any means.
– Suppressive forces staging maneuvers.
– A significant reduction in the number of buses in different routes, especially in downtown and also reducing the number of stops by the metro.
– Slowing down and creating disorder in internet and telephone communication lines.
– Closing down schools under the pretext of weather pollution in Tehran. Obligatory closing of shops in central areas including Enqelab and Vali’asr Squares.

These measures, however, faced utter defeat as students, with their high spirits, persistence and unity, were able to gain another victory for the Iranian people’s freedom movement against the faltering clerical regime.
