Strikes and protests

by Haft Tappeh sugarcane, Arak Hepco, and Saveh profile workers

On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, workers and employees of oil and gas refineries, petrochemical and power plants in 23 cities in 12 provinces and in 54 sites and centers continued their strike for the 18th consecutive day. Despite all the threats and hollow promises of the regime agents and affiliates to end the strike, the workers maintained their unity and insisted that they would continue to strike until their demands were met.

In another development, the workers of Haft Tappeh sugarcane complex continued their strike and protests for the 65th day on Tuesday. At the same time, Arak Hepco’s workers continued their protest on the company premises for the 18th day. They demanded payment of their salaries, which had been delayed for months, as well as re-launching the production line at the industrial complex, which has long been shut down by IRGC-affiliated owners under the guise of the privatization. The workers were promised that two-months of their wages would be paid by Monday, August 17, but this promise, like other hollow promises made by the regime’s agents, proved false.

On Tuesday, workers of Saveh Profile Company had also gathered in front of Saveh Labor Office to protest the non-receipt of their unpaid wages.
