NCRI – Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, described the week-long infighting of various factions of the mullahs’ regime about July 17 Friday prayer sermon as a sign of deepening and intensifying crisis within the regime and failure of Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in containing this crisis.

While Rafsanjani was trying to minimize the dimensions of crisis within the regime, he admitted that the regime faces “crisis” and “danger” and religious leaders and clergy are against it. He stressed: “It is a bitter period and situation. No one from any factions (within the regime) wanted this to happen. We all suffered.”

Rafsanjani, while criticizing the electoral process and the Guardian Council, did not challenge the result of the fraudulent elections and accepted it as a done deal. He said, “Anyway that is passed and we have gone through this phase and we are now in another phase” and only asked for the release of prisoners and affability of bereaved families.

The Iranian Resistance's President-elect said that the Friday prayer this week displayed the clerical regime’s impasse with no way out of it. “This will give greater impetus to the people’s uprising.”

She added that Tehran residents, especially women and youth, were able to turn even the Friday prayer to a scene of confrontation with the religious fascism ruling Iran. Despite heavy presence and full mobilization of the regime’s suppressive forces including the Revolutionary Guards, Bassij paramilitary force, plainclothes agents and State Security Forces (SSF), millions of Tehran residents poured into the streets chanting “Death to dictator, be it Shah or Doctor,” “Our leader is a killer, his rule is void,” and “Down with Khamenei.” Mrs. Rajavi emphasized that people showed to the world that they were determined to overthrow the mullahs’ regime and establish democracy and a popular rule.

The July 17 uprising showed that the ongoing uprising is not going stop. The mullahs have no future and any investment on the regime is doomed to fail.

Mrs. Rajavi called on the United Nations Security Council and all countries in the world to condemn the brutal suppression of demonstrators that has outraged everyone and to suspend diplomatic and economic relations with the medieval regime until complete cessation of suppression and accepting of a free UN-supervised election based on the principle of people’s sovereignty.
