Many arrested in savage attack on Ashura mourners by suppressive forces

NCRI – At lunchtime, the crowd at Ferdowsi Square moving towards Enqelab Square chanted: “Death to dictator”. Suppressive forces attacked the people arresting dozens. The crowd rose to the defense of arrestees while chanting, “death to dictator”.

 

In clashes between the crowd and suppressive forces in Janat-abad and Tehran-sar, following some arrests, the crowd roared louder, “death to dictator”.

At Imam Hossein Square people went on chanting “Allahu Akbar” and “death to dictator” despite the presence of suppressive forces. In Qeitarieh district large crowd of people clashed with agents of State Security Force while chanting death to dictator.

Before noon, in Navab Street, suppressive forces riding on 50 motorbikes attacked a group of mourners from Azerbaijan residing in Tehran. The crowd of mourners, confronting the suppressive forces, continued marching while chanting, “Allahu Akbar”, “death to this deceitful government”, and “death to dictator.” In Vanak Square, people also demonstrated and chanted anti-regime slogans.

There were also sporadic clashes at Vali Asr Square.

Herds of suppressive forces on motorcycles were roaming between Tehran University and Enghelab Square in a bid to create an atmosphere of terror and fear and prevent formation of gatherings.

Suppressive forces also used helicopters to film mourners in order to scare them off. Cameras of those filming or taking photos from protests were confiscated. A large number of people have been arrested.
