Khamenei’s representative: Major policies are decided by supreme leader

NCRI – Hossein Shariatmadari, a close associate of Ali Khamenei and his representative, in the editorial of Monday, June 17, in Kayhan state daily in the aftermath of announcing election results, pointed to talks in foreign media following the sham presidential election about “probability of serious changes in system’s major policies” and “effect of this election on formation of political parties and internal currents” and wrote:

“The only new development these days with the election of Mr. Hassan Rouhani is replacement of country’s executive responsibility from one political taste to another but within system’s already determined framework.” He went on to add: However, “according to article 110 of the constitution, general and major policies of the system rests with the supreme leader. Therefore, contrary to commotions raised by foreign enemies and their internal cohorts, with the election of Dr. Rouhani, system’s major policies have not and will not change.”

Shariatmadari then went on to describe Rouhani’s background and his services to the clerical regime and said: “For years, he was the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and one of the representatives of revolution’s eminent leader in this council — and he still is — and he is knowledgeable that in addition to leader’s legal jurisdiction in determining major policies of the system — of absolute rule of faqih — many major policies, as referred by leader of revolution, are discussed in this council and ultimately, with the approval of his eminence, will be implemented.” Therefore, “with the presence of Dr. Rouhani as the head of the executive branch, both concerns by some as well as expectations by a number of others for changes in system’s major policies are without foundation and impossible; of course, he has never stated such claims anyway.”
