Iranian regime’s henchmen forced to give in to prisoners’ demands

 February 11 uprising – no 6

NCRI – Iranian regime's henchmen at Gohardasht prison were forced on Wednesday to give in to the demands of prisoners who had taken over the control of Ward 1 and had expelled the Prison Guards.

On Wednesday, the prisoners at Gohardasht prison took control of the Hall 1 on the ground floor and Hall 3 on the second floor of prison. They expelled the prison guards and locked the doors to prevent attacks by the suppressive forces and anti-human pressures by torturers. The regime's henchmen were forced to talk to them from behind locked doors to calm the situation.

Efforts by Ali Haj-Kazem, the head of Gohardasht prison for transferring two prisoners to solitary confinements failed due to the firmness and solidarity among the prisoners. Finally, the prison authorities were forced to concede to the demands of the prisoners on Wednesday including halt of any harassment of prisoners, removal of Hassan Akharian, the head of Ward 1, halt of attacks by guards, turning on the heating system, providing clothing and putting an end to other anti-human restrictions.

Even though Ward 1 of Gohardasht prison is officially designated for prisoners committing social crimes, in many cases Iranian regime has exiled a number of political prisoners to the Ward for further pressures.
