Iran: Widespread Protests and Clashes on the 37th Day of Nationwide Uprising

Saturday, October 22, marked the 37th day of the Iranian people’s nationwide uprising. The people in Tehran took to the streets and protested in different districts, including Azerbaijan and Saadi streets, Lalehzar, Cheragh-Bargh Bazaar, Sepahsalar Bagh, and others. Young people protested in Lalezar Street by lighting fire and chanting, “Death to the dictator,” The protesters in front of the city theater confronted the suppressive forces who were shooting people with shotguns. Jame-Jam mall in Tehran caught fire due to tear gas.

Shop owners went on strike in Gohardasht, west of Tehran. Meanwhile, suppressive forces were dispatched to different city districts, and several vans and buses were stationed in front of Azad University to transport the detained protesters. In Isfahan, central Iran, young people took to the streets chanting, “Mullahs must get lost,” on Kharrazi highway, and in Anoushirvan street protesters set up roadblocks, and cars expressed their solidarity with the protesters by honking their horns. In the Chaharbagh district of Isfahan, suppressive forces targeted the protesters and shot them. In Tabriz, northwestern Iran, rebellious youth set up roadblocks by burning tires.

In Mashhad, northeast Iran, people took to the streets in different districts, including Mellat Park, Nezam Pezeshki, Azadshahr, Moalem Square, Ahmadabad, Rahnamaie intersection, and Haft-e Tir Blvd., chanting, “Death to the dictator,” “Have no fear, we are all together,” and “Death to Khamenei.” In some districts, the suppressive forces attacked the people.

In Shiraz, southcentral Iran, people took to the streets chanting, “Don’t call it a protest, it is now a revolution” and “We will fight, we will die, but we will take back Iran.” Arak in Markazi (Central) province was the scene of hit-and-run clashes between the suppressive forces and the youth. In Sanandaj, western Iran, protesters blocked the roads by lighting fire and confronted the suppressive forces in Baharan township and Ghafoor district.

In Behbahan, in Khuzestan province, a demonstration was held between Jawan Mardi Square and Melli Bank intersection, and suppressive forces targeted and opened fire on the protesters. Young people of Tonkabon, north of Iran, took down a police billboard. In Bandar Kong, southern Iran, people took to the streets chanting “Death to the dictator.” In Malard, Alborz province, protesters burned the posters of Qassem Soleimani, the eliminated commander of the terrorist Quds force, and Ali Khamenei, the regime’s supreme leader. Saturday, the oil workers of Phase 2 of Abadan Refinery went on strike.

Despite the severe atmosphere of terror on Saturday evening, in many districts of Tehran, including Valiasr intersection, Shariati Street, Ekbatan township, Tehran Pars, Sadeghieh, and others, people took to the streets chanting, “Death to the dictator.” In Nabuwat Square of Tehran, there was a fierce clash between the youth and the suppressive forces. In Dezful, southwest Iran, brave youth took to the streets chanting, “This year is a year of sacrifice. Seyyed Ali (Khamenei) will be overthrown” and “freedom, freedom, freedom.” The suppressive forces opened fire. Young people in Sanandaj, Marivan, and Mahabad blocked the streets by lighting fire and holding night demonstrations.
