Iran: Widespread crackdown on Shiraz University students

Sample ImageNCRI- Last February, Shiraz University campus was the scene of ten days of courageous protests by the student activists in the southern city of Shiraz.

The mullahs' hand picked school management jumped at an opportunity in the Nowruoz (Iranian New Year holidays) to install hundreds of surveillance cameras on the campus to monitor the students every move.

On the first day of school, following the holidays' break, twenty-six students were called by the school disciplinary committee, twelve others were summoned to Shiraz prosecutor's office and six members of the Student Council were suspended as their punishment for taking part in the demonstrations.

The mullahs' leaders, in fear of their regime's downfall, are trying to curb escalation in student uprisings by adopting more suppressive measures.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations especially student unions to condemn the mullahs' regime for adopting suppressive measure against the Shiraz University students. It also calls for defending their rights.
