Iran: Widespread clashes at Azadi-Azerbaijan junction in Tehran

NCRI – Large numbers of young people protested on the intersection of Azadi and Azerbaijan streets, the Social Headquarters of the the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) reported, adding Revolutionary Guards, anti-riot forces, and plainclothes agents attacked them.

The people resisted the onslaught by suppressive forces and chanted “God is great”, “Death to Khamenei”, “Death to the dictator”, and “Political prisoners must be freed”. Agents fired tear gas and pepper spray into the crowd.

In a separate incident in Kargar Street, an eight-year-old girl was rushed to hospital by people after becoming unconscious due to the strong fumes of the tear gas.

At 18.30 local time, in the course of clashes in Vali Asr Street, people managed to free a young woman who had been detained by female members of the paramilitary Bassij.
