Iran: Widespread arrests of students in various universities

NCRI – According to reports by the Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside the country, hundreds of university students were arrested across Iran during the courageous Student Day uprisings on December 7 and the following day.

Dozens of Tehran University students were arrested including four female students of School of Natural Sciences.

Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MIOS) arrested at least 146 people in Amir Kabir University. They included Majid Tavakoli, a speaker at the university’s Student Day event on December 7.  He has been taken to an unknown destination.

At Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology, MIOS agents arrested seven students including Mehdi Allahyari, a graduate student at the university’s School of Chemistry. They were also transferred to unknown locations.

At least twenty students of Tehran’s Azad University (central campus) and seven student of Payam-e Noor Uninversity were arrested on December 7.  Two students of Khaje Nasir Toosi University disappeared in the morning of the Student Day.
 
Kamran Asa, whose brother Kianoosh was killed by regime’s agents in early days of the uprising, was arrested as he was participating in the Student Day event and in memory of his fallen brother along with two other students. The detained students in Tehran include many from universities across the country.

The reports received from other cities so far indicate that at least 43 students have been arrested in universities in cities of Ahvaz, Tabriz, Rasht, Shiraz, Hamedan, Sari, Mashhad and Qaraveh.

IRGC Brig. Gen. Rajabzadeh, commander of Tehran’s State Security Force (SSF) has only acknowledged the arrest of 204 protesters to prevent the disclosure of true figures.  He said that the detainees include 165 men and 39 women. He did not mention anything about their whereabouts or conditions.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations particularly the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Human Rights, Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and Special Rapporteur on Torture, to condemn the brutal suppression of students and widespread arrest of protesters. Also calls on them to take immediate and binding measures to free all political prisoners particularly the detained students in Iran.
