Iran: Suppressive forces clash with people in Esfahan

Dozens arrested and a large number wounded

NCRI – On Wednesday, suppressive forces prevented people from holding a memorial service in Esfahan for Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri who died in Qom on Sunday. They attacked people who had gathered to take part in the service.

A large number of agents of the State Security Forces, plainclothes agents and Revolutionary Guards have surrounded Seyyed Mosque since 8:00 o’clock this morning and prevent people from going into the mosque for the ceremony. People have been resisting the suppressive forces by chanting, “Khamenei is a murderer, his rule is illegitimate” and rejecting the regime as a dictatorship. People, especially women and girls, have been attacked with batons and teargas and pepper gas. A large number of people have been wounded and dozens arrested. Streets around the mosque have been blocked and cars are prevented from going near the mosque. There are clashes in a vast area of the city.

In Najaf-Abad, birth place of Montazeri near Esfahan, the mourning ceremonies turned into anti-government protests. People are chanting anti-regime slogans and suppressive forces have been trying to disperse them by beating them.  There are clashes in various parts of the city.
